Disciplinary
Overview
At CKHA, we strive to provide a safe and positive environment for all of our members, including players, parents and coaches. We understand that there may be instances of player, parent and/or coach misconduct and we want to ensure that they are handled in a fair and appropriate manner. Therefore, we have established a Disciplinary Committee to address disciplinary issues that may arise.
Any member of CKHA can file a disciplinary complaint. The “Disciplinary Action Report” on the CKHA website should be used to file such a complaint. However, minor infractions should be handled by the Head Coach or the nearest available coach. In order to make a complaint, you must observe a disciplinary issue that was not corrected by a coach or a coach was not present to correct it. This infraction must be of the nature that a simple correction by an adult would not fix it. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to email the Committee Chairperson or CKHA Board for guidance.
To file a complaint email the CKHA Disciplinary Chairperson. The Chairperson will review the complaint and determine the appropriate next steps and whether or not they warrant a formalized inquiry. If so, the Chairperson will inform the committee members of the disciplinary infraction and delegate points of inquiry to committee members to collect statements and supporting facts/evidence.
An informal hearing will be held among committee members to adjudicate/settle the infraction, or if necessary, a formal hearing will be scheduled with the accused, the victim, and witnesses. After the hearing, the disciplinary committee will propose corrective action(s) to the CKHA Board of Directors, who will then hold a vote. The results will be reported to all necessary parties in writing and any corrective action NOT established in the bylaws will be at the discretion of the Board of Directors and Disciplinary Committee recommendation.
Please note that certain infractions require mandatory reporting, such as fighting beyond a low level, any violation or suspected violation of Safesport, sexual harassment, abuse of an official, and more. Coaches will also use the CKHA “Disciplinary Action Report” form to report any violation of a mandatory nature to the Disciplinary Committee.
Finally, please note that the Disciplinary Committee will not engage in criminal investigation. The proper law enforcement agency, with jurisdiction, will handle any infraction that is criminal in nature. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to ensuring a safe and positive environment for all members of CKHA.
