8U Mite Hockey

A Journey of Fun, Growth, and Friendship

Welcome to the 8U Mite Hockey program! This is where young players, aged 8 and under, take their first big steps into the world of hockey. Our program is designed to provide a fun, exciting, and challenging environment that helps kids develop crucial skills while building lasting friendships.

Why 8U Mite Hockey?

Our 8U Mite Hockey program is all about introducing players to the joys of hockey in a supportive and dynamic setting. Here’s what makes our program special:

  • Skill Development: For players who have completed Learn-to-Play or Learn-to-Skate sessions, our program focuses on enhancing basic skills through structured drills and engaging games. We follow the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM) to ensure a developmentally appropriate approach.
  • Fun and Competition: Whether your child is new to hockey or looking to take their skills to the next level, our program offers a mix of structured practices and enjoyable game-like experiences. Players will have opportunities to participate in cross-ice hockey and small area games that make learning exciting as well as participate in local house games.
  • Building Friendships: Hockey is not just about skills—it’s also about building lifelong friendships. Our program fosters a close-knit community where players and families can enjoy the sport together.

Program Overview

Every Lexington Thoroughbred 8U youth hockey player participates in our Mite hockey program. This is the foundational program. All 8U players participate in the programming designed for this age group. Practices are run by the same coaching staff throughout the year and practices are designed to develop players at the appropriate pace for their skill level. This is achieved thru groupings of like skilled players into a station based high repetition practice plan.
