Become a Coach
Prospective Coaches
Thank you for your interest in coaching our youth hockey programs with CKHA and the Lexington Thoroughbreds. Your involvement is crucial for the development of our players and the growth of the game. Before you can coach any player, on or off the ice, it is necessary to complete the certification process outlined by USA Hockey and CKHA.
The following information is setup to mimic the order in which you need to complete the coaching certification process.
Tell us about yourself
The very first part of the process is to complete a five-minute application to tell us who you are, any certifications you carry, levels you'd like to coach, and gather information about your hockey background.
REGISTER WITH LEXINGTON THOROUGhBREDS
Next you will need to register with CKHA as a coach/volunteer. You can register with the organization by clicking the link below. Note: You must have a 2024-25 USA Hockey number (player/coach).
USA Hockey Requirements

Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching
Cost is $20 per module and only needs to be completed once per age level. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed.
Coaching Education Program Certification Clinic Requirements
Must be completed by December 31 each season.
Find, register, and attend the required certification clinic. Access to clinics can be found in your own personal coaching portal with USA hockey. Many clinics are now online and you do not have to attend in person. There is a cost associated with this requirement. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. You can take clinics from April 1-Dec. 31 each season. You can take a clinic from any district, it does not have to be from the Midam District.
